A website is not a brochure. It is the place where someone decides whether to trust you enough to make contact. WebAktive designs around that decision: what a visitor needs to understand, in what order, and what should be obvious at every scroll depth.
What we design
- marketing sites for service businesses
- e-commerce storefronts and product pages
- landing pages for specific campaigns or offers
- design systems that keep a growing site coherent
- redesigns of sites that no longer reflect the business
Design starts with the decision, not the layout
Before anything is drawn, we work out who arrives, what they already know, and what would make them hesitate. A visitor comparing three suppliers needs different reassurance from someone who already knows your name.
That analysis drives structure: which proof appears above the fold, where pricing or process belongs, how many steps sit between arrival and enquiry. A beautiful page that buries the one fact a buyer needs is not good design.
Not templates
Templates are fast and occasionally the right answer for a very small site. They are the wrong answer when your offer is specific, your audience is technical, or your competitors all bought the same one.
We design from your content and your customers. That takes longer than swapping colours in a theme, and it produces a site that looks like your business rather than a category.
Built to be used, not just admired
Design decisions are checked against how the site actually behaves. Contrast has to survive real content, not just the mockup. Tap targets need to work with a thumb. Forms need to be short enough that people finish them.
We test layouts at real breakpoints with real text, including the long German compound nouns and the awkward product names that break a grid designed around lorem ipsum.
Speed is a design constraint
A design that needs six web fonts, three carousels and a full-screen video is a slow design, however good the mockup looks. We treat performance as part of the brief: image budgets, font loading, and how much has to arrive before the page is usable.
That discipline is why our builds tend to score well on Core Web Vitals without a rescue project afterwards.
Accessibility is not a later phase
Colour contrast, focus states, heading order, form labels and keyboard navigation are decided during design, because retrofitting them means redesigning. This also matters commercially: the same choices that help a screen reader help a distracted person on a phone in bright sunlight.
Working with us
You see design directions early, usually more than one, and we talk through the reasoning rather than presenting a finished artefact for approval. Changes are cheapest at that stage and most expensive after development starts.
Once a direction is agreed we build out the full set of templates, states and components the site needs, so development is not improvising layouts that were never designed.
What you get
Source files, the design system, and the finished build. After handover the design and code are yours under the contract; there is no licence to keep paying and no lock-in to a proprietary builder.
FAQ
Do you use WordPress themes?
Only if a theme genuinely suits the project. Most of our work is custom, because a theme's structure usually fights the content rather than serving it.
How many revisions are included?
The scope sets a working range, but the intent is to reach the right answer rather than to count rounds. Structural changes after development starts are quoted separately.
Can you design without writing the content?
We can, but it is worse. Design built around placeholder text tends to fall apart when real copy arrives. Where content does not exist yet we plan for it explicitly.
