Marketing that fits a small team and a real budget

Most marketing advice is written for companies with a marketing department. For a business where the owner does the marketing between actual work, the useful question is not what is possible but what is worth the hours.

The constraint is attention, not just budget

A small business cannot maintain five channels. Attempting it produces five neglected ones and the conclusion that marketing does not work.

We identify the one or two channels where your customers actually are, then do those properly. That is usually search plus one other, and dropping the rest is a decision that improves results rather than shrinking them.

Start with what already happens

Before spending on new traffic, look at what the current enquiries do. How many arrive, where from, how many convert, how quickly they get answered.

An enquiry answered in four hours converts far better than one answered in three days. That improvement costs nothing and is available immediately.

Local and regional visibility

For businesses serving a defined area, local search is usually the highest-return work. An accurate business profile, consistent details, and pages that say something real about the areas served.

The bar is low because most competitors have not done it.

The website has to carry its weight

For a small business the site is often the only salesperson working outside business hours. It needs to state plainly what you do, for whom, roughly what it costs, and how to start.

Vagueness about price is the most common own goal. A range with the factors explained beats silence, because silence makes people assume the worst and leave.

Budget

Below a certain level, paid advertising cannot gather enough data to optimise. If your monthly budget is a few hundred euros, organic visibility, local search and conversion improvements return more.

We will say that rather than take the retainer.

Measurement without a department

You need three numbers: how many enquiries, where from, and how many became work. Anything more is optional at this scale.

FAQ

How much should we spend?

Enough for one channel to work properly rather than three to underperform.

Do we need to be on social media?

Only where your customers are. For many trades and B2B services, the honest answer is not much.

How long before results?

Local visibility and conversion fixes show in weeks. Competitive organic rankings take months.
