Shopware, where German commerce is the default

Shopware is built in Germany for German commerce, and it shows in the places international platforms need extensions to reach: tax handling, invoicing, B2B pricing and the assumptions German buyers bring to a checkout.

Where Shopware fits

  • complex catalogues with many variants and attributes
  • B2B trade with customer-specific pricing
  • businesses selling primarily into German-speaking markets
  • stores needing detailed rules around tax and invoicing
  • operations integrating with German ERP systems

The German advantage is real

VAT logic, invoice generation, withdrawal handling and price display rules that satisfy German requirements are native rather than bolted on. On other platforms these arrive as a stack of regional extensions that each need maintaining.

If you sell mainly into Germany, that difference compounds over years of operation.

B2B capability

Customer-specific price lists, quantity discounts, quote requests, purchase approvals and separate net pricing for business customers are supported without heavy customisation.

Most platforms can be pushed into B2B behaviour. Shopware starts there, which shortens the build considerably.

Honest limitations

Shopware needs more infrastructure and more expertise than a hosted platform. Hosting is more demanding, updates require testing, and the developer pool is smaller and more expensive outside German-speaking markets.

For a simple store with fifty products, it is the wrong tool. We will say so.

ERP and system integration

Many Shopware projects exist because the store must exchange data with an existing ERP. Product data, stock levels, prices, orders and customers all need mapping, and that integration is usually the bulk of the project rather than the storefront.

We scope it explicitly rather than discovering it halfway through.

FAQ

Shopware or Shopify?

Shopware for complex German or B2B commerce with ERP integration. Shopify for simpler catalogues and lower operational burden.

Is Shopware 6 different from 5?

Substantially. Version 5 is legacy; new builds should be on 6.

Can you migrate our existing store?

Yes. Product data, customers and URL redirects are all mapped as part of the project.
