Shopify, built with restraint

Shopify removes most of the infrastructure problems from running a store. What it does not remove is the temptation to install fifteen apps, each adding scripts, monthly fees and a little more load time.

What we do

  • custom themes and theme customisation
  • app selection with the total cost understood
  • checkout optimisation within platform limits
  • German market configuration
  • migrations to and from Shopify

Apps are a recurring cost in two currencies

Every app costs money monthly and performance permanently. Many inject scripts on every page whether or not the feature is used there.

We audit what each app does, whether the theme could do it natively, and what it costs in fees and milliseconds. Removing four apps often improves both the invoice and the conversion rate.

Themes

Premium themes are a reasonable starting point and rarely a finished answer. We customise heavily or build from a minimal base, depending on how far your requirements sit from the theme's assumptions.

Speed is decided here: how many fonts, how much JavaScript, whether images are sized correctly, whether sections load work nobody sees.

Checkout

Shopify controls checkout, which limits customisation, and that constraint is mostly protective — it is a well-tested flow. The levers you do have matter: payment methods, shipping presentation, and how early total cost becomes visible.

For Germany, that means taking local payment expectations seriously, including invoice and direct debit, and showing delivery cost before the final step.

German requirements

A German store needs price display including VAT, clear shipping costs, correct withdrawal instructions, and Impressum and Datenschutz reachable from every page. These are legal requirements, not preferences, and they get missed on stores set up from an international template.

Migrations

Moving to or from Shopify means mapping products, URLs, redirects and customer data. Rankings are lost in migrations that skip the redirect map.

FAQ

Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify for lower operational burden at a monthly cost. WooCommerce for flexibility if you have someone maintaining it. The comparison guide covers this properly.

Can we keep our design?

Usually, if it can be expressed within Shopify's template structure. We will tell you before starting if something will fight the platform.

Do you build apps?

We build custom functionality where it is genuinely needed, preferring theme-level solutions.
